Following a successful career in athletics which spans 18 years, Kirkwood’s head volleyball coach Jill Williams recently achieved her 500th win – a milestone she says is built on teamwork as well as the unique experiences and added value that each player brings to the success of the game.

“Everyone plays a role in the success that we have here,” Williams said after discussing how the team comes together through bonding.

With each academic term bringing in new additions to the team, this diversity in players only adds to the strength and unique talent of the program at-large, according to Williams. As a result, the coaching staff has “found a little something different out of each player,” Williams said, which are all “adding to the program.”

Prior to the win, Williams said she was aware of the possibility of the success and magnitude of such a monumental moment in her career before the season opened since her role as the sports information coordinator keeps her abreast of milestones.

However, she made the decision to channel her focus on her team and in helping them achieve their established goals for the season, where the Eagles currently stand at an overall record of 19-3.

Moreover, Williams spoke about how the program has grown and her experience with coaching different teams throughout the years she has been involved.  However, this year’s season is unique and has skyrocketed with great wins she said, as the team looks to continue their success in the upcoming months.

Kirkwood’s program hosts tournaments and regular-season games throughout the 2022-2023 school year.

Coach Williams said she is excited about what the 2022 squad will continue to bring to the table as she plans to continue to “help [her players] improve and focus on teamwork aspects.”
