Outstanding Students

Christine Tygart

Q: Where are you from?

A: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: I have wanted to work in the Physical Therapy profession since high school and the PTA program at Kirkwood is one of the best.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: Associates of Applied Science, Physical Therapist Assistant, I went to the University of Iowa and got my undergrad in Exercise Science after a lot of soul searching and researching on the difference between Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants, I decided that PTA was the right career path for me.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: Being able to work hands on with real patients through my clinical experiences and seeing them progress from their second visit until they’re done and knowing I was a part of helping them to reach their goals and return to their lives.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: Obtain a PTA position in the Cedar Rapids or surrounding area.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: My family and friends are the most supportive and encouraging people I know. They motivate me every day to learn and grow as a person, to provide the best care possible to my patients.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: I am a dance teacher at a local dance studio and a poms coach at a local high school. I have always had a love and a passion for dance, and I am blessed to be able to share my love with the next generation. I love to spend time with my friends, family and kitties and relax with a good book or puzzle.

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: Being an Outstanding Student, and being nominated by a staff member is a huge compliment to me. I have always loved school, applied my self and pushed myself to do my best both in and out of the classroom. So having a faculty member not only recognize that, but acknowledge it is one of the biggest compliments I could receive.
