Outstanding Students

Nate Rotter

Q:  Where are you from?

A: Shueyville, Iowa

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: I choose Kirkwood mainly for the Network & System Administration program that they offer, but also because I did not want to spend four years at a university and instead get into the workforce after two years with my AAS.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: Network & System Administration, I choose this major as I am pursuing a career in Cyber Security and this program offers coursework and certifications that apply directly to that field.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: Making the Dean’s List every semester has been my proudest moment. Even though recognition is simply a letter in the mail, it was a nice form of validation that the time and effort that I am putting in is translating into success.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: My plans after Kirkwood have already begun as I am currently enrolled in the VetSuccess SANS Immersion Academy working on completing several GIAC certifications that will apply towards my career in Cyber Security.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: My wife

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: Outside of Kirkwood I enjoy spending time with my wife and my family. Prior to Kirkwood I spent seven years on Active Duty serving with the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet, and now that I have moved back home, I am making the most of the time I have with them.

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: It means that my hard work is paying off!

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A: I would just like to thank the faculty that have put in the time and effort throughout my time here at Kirkwood, especially throughout this past year, adapting and making this whole experience possible.
