The end of the semester is approaching. Kirkwood Library Services wants to help you finish your semester successfully and with as little stress as possible.  If you still have a research paper to turn in, we have many options for your research.  Once you have a topic, look at several different sources.

A good starting place is WorldCat – the library’s online catalog in the middle of the library homepage. WorldCat provides access to books, ebooks, articles, and films in the Kirkwood library and libraries around the world. Another good place to go is the All Kirkwood Databases link on the library homepage.  You will see list of 90 databases.  Academic OneFile and Academic Search Elite are both great sources for a wide variety of academic research topics. Scrolling down, you will see many other databases on different topics.

A small sample includes Business Source Elite for business, management and marketing articles; Health Source for medical or health questions; Global Road Warrior for information on different countries; and Opposing Viewpoints or CQ Researcher for current hot topics. If you need help figuring out where to start, talk to a librarian.

To help reduce stress, Exam Cram is December 3rd. We host this event with Tutoring Services at the end of each semester.  In addition to getting help with your research and study needs, you can also stop in for a little fun and stress relief. Throughout the day, we have snacks and beverages and you can sign up for door prizes. At scheduled times we also have therapy dogs, crafts, blood pressure checks, chair massage, and virtual reality.

Another way to relieve stress is to pick up some reading just for fun.  Stop in the library to check out a book or two for your Thanksgiving break, or check out several for reading after your semester is over. We have books for all kinds of reading tastes.

Some recently added titles are, The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware, The Nickel Boys by Coleson Whitehead, and With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.  If you prefer nonfiction, some recent titles are I am Zlatan: My Story on and Off the Field by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States by Samantha Allen, and Never Home Alone: From Microbes to Millipedes, Camel Crickets, and Honeybees, the Natural History of Where We Live by Rob Dunn.
