Eagles conquer North Platte in the first round of the NJCAA Tournament

The Eagles women’s basketball team had no problem in the opening round of the D11 NJCAA tournament on April 20, 2021, with a 63-28 win over 16 seeded North Platte. In the first quarter, the Kirkwood women led 19-3 and 39-12 at the end of the first half. The Lady Knights could not get going and only managed to score 12 points at the end of the first half. 

The 2021 Mid-West Athletic Conference, the women’s basketball runner ups finished the season at 10-12 after falling to Kirkwood on Tuesday night. The women’s basketball team record is currently 22-1. 

Tasia Jordan led for the Eagles scoring 10 points for the win. She also had 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Kamera Watson finished the game with 8 points and 4 boards. Her field goal percentage was 80 percent for the game. Karsyn Stratton came away with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 dimes. 

For North Platte, No. 31 Jalyn Reagans came off the bench and scored 8 points and 5 boards. Kayla Pope had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Janay Brauer finished with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 dimes. Kanesha Hall had 5 points and 2 rebounds. They struggled shooting the ball as they finished 17 percent. They shot 23 percent from behind the arc and 45 percent at the free throw line. 

The reigning ICCAC and the number 1 seed in the NCJAA D11 tournament had a 42-field goal percentage, 18 percent from behind the arc, and 46 percent at the free throw line.
