With Halloween right around the corner, now is a good time for Kirkwood students to get involved in Halloween activities.
Costumes are a big part of Halloween, but Kirkwood students have different opinions about whether they plan to dress up this year.
Business major Owen Bolt plans to dress up.
“I think I’m going to go as Flynn Rider,” Bolt said.
“I don’t think I’m going to dress up for Halloween, but I do think I’m going to a party,” said Alan Ness, undecided, said.
The Anime Club and eSports Club will host a Halloween party from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Room 237D in Nielsen Hall. Food will be provided, but drinks will not. Costumes are encouraged, provided they meet the event’s guidelines.
The event will give students an opportunity to socialize and celebrate Halloween with others who share similar interests, said Kaleb Upton, Anime Club president.
“We of the Anime Club will be collaborating with the eSports Club to host a Halloween party. It is an opportunity for students to get together, socialize and celebrate Halloween with similar interests,” Upton said. “But of course, it is not just going to be our club attending, as we have been sending invitations to other clubs around Kirkwood to see if they would like to participate and have fun.”
According to the event flyer, costumes must be appropriate. Weapons, political figures, police or SWAT costumes and revealing attire are not allowed.
It wouldn’t be Halloween without community attractions. Escapology, an escape room in Cedar Rapids, will offer a discount to college students during Halloween week.
“Escape rooms are great for getting teams to work, and we offer 50% off for all college students, including Kirkwood students, to play all week,” said Dolores Cicio, general manager of Escapology.
Haunted attractions in the area include Circle of Ash in Central City, Scream Acres in Atkins and the 5th Realm in Lindale Mall. Be sure to check online for the dates, times and cost.
