Q: Where are you from? (city, state)
A: I am from Benin in West Africa.
Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?
A: I choose Kirkwood Community College because it is one of the most recognized community college in Iowa.
Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?
A: My major is Network and System Administration with an emphasis in Security and Virtualization. I choose this major because it is one of the most needed job in the market. With the expansion of Cloud technologies and more and more companies and applications available over the internet, Security and Virtualization are a new challenge for every companies. IDC project a minimum of 4.2% growth in IT job sector with the most in Security, Virtualization and development.
Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
A: My proudest moment at Kirkwood have been to be accepted. When I was applying, I have one big challenge: the language. I come from a French speaking country and have learned English only for a few months before my arrival in USA. I was very proud to be accepted so quickly.
Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?
A: My plans after Kirkwood are to be accepted in a high rank school where I can deepen my knowledge in IT Security. I want to work on my Bachelor and Master degrees.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?
A: will better answer the question who inspire me. Troy Hunt is an Australian eminent security expert. He works for Microsoft and dedicate his career to Education. He is one of the best trainers in IT Security on the Pluralsight platform. It is exactly what I would like to do in my life. Gain expertise in IT Security and share my knowledge and my research’s results with the younger people. Everybody should have today a minimum knowledge in IT Security from Elementary School to College or University and that’s what I want to dedicate my life to.
Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
A: I don’t have a lot of hobbies. But, I like to help my community. I offer tutoring to students at Kirkwood. I am also member of the Rotary Club of Linn County, Lions Club International and the Kirkwood chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
Q: What does be named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
A: Being named an Outstanding Student means a lot to me. It is the achievement of hard work and a great opportunity to access the high ranked Universities of my dream.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just want to say to all Kirkwood students that they need to work hard and to chase their dreams. We can all be Outstanding students. If you need help, ask the teachers, ask the counselors. Kirkwood offer a lot of resources to help you have better results. I would also like to thank my teachers and all the Kirkwood staff. I won’t be there without them. Thanks.
