“The Eternals,” stars Selma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo to name a few.
It was directed by Chloe Zhoa and the script was written by Ramin Djawadi.
The film was loosely based on the comics and in the movie the Eternals are sent to earth to defend it against the deviants. They arrive on earth as humans are beginning to make the change from hunter gatherers to farmers.
The Eternals live amongst humans while protecting them from the deviants as well as slowly helping them advance.
They spend 7,000 years believing that their only goal was to protect earth from the deviants until after the “Blip” of Infinity Wars is reversed which starts the emergence.
The cast included Lauren Ridloff, who plays Makkari an Eternal whose powers is super speed. Ridloff is a deaf actress and her character is also deaf.
Rather than making her deafness a weakness it is treated is as a strength very early in the movie. She can feel vibrations from talking and movement, thus making it an extra power.
Another point of diversity or representation was Phastos being married to an Arban American man and they kissed on screen.
Marvel chose not to cut that moment from the release that is being shown in the Middle East and it has now been banned in several countries.
Given there was such a big difference in how the movie was written compared to the comics, it is enjoyable for the average viewer.
Many children want to be able to see themselves as their favorite heroes, making diversity and representation important and this movie did an amazing job of doing just that.
