Outstanding Students

Peyton Orozco

Where are you from? I am from Marion, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I chose Kirkwood because it was close to home and had a lot of programs to choose from, as well as scholarship opportunities which helped make everything very affordable.

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is Medical Assisting. I chose this major because I wanted something in the medical field however did not want to go straight for nursing. This program is a very good steppingstone to see if the medical field is for you.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? My proudest moment at Kirkwood was getting up my courage to try out for the cheer team and making it.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? I am currently living out my plan… I became a certified CMA and am working for Mercy, at the Mercy Care Family Medicine on Blairs Ferry.

What inspires or motivates you? My job inspires me to learn something new every day. This is the perfect profession for me because you can learn something new every day for the rest of your life. Which motivates my curiosity. I have always been a curious person and that helps me be open-minded to everything I may encounter throughout my day.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. Outside of Kirkwood I am a hard worker, I have a second job on the weekends, I like to spend time with my boyfriend and family as well. I have also recently taken up a new hobby, in reading. I like to stay busy in my free time, however I will never pass up a time to nap.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? It is an honor being named an outstanding student. I had no idea this was a thing until I got an email. I feel very fortunate my instructors saw something in me, for me to be chosen for this award. I will never forget this and am so thankful I got to experience this opportunity.
