What’s the club called? Kirkwood Film Club. We also call it KFC, just because it’s a fun acronym.
How did it all begin? We’re pretty much all students of the professor and advisor, Phil Brown. We just realized that a lot of us were either coming in early before his classes or staying late just to talk about movies, and we thought we should just get more people involved with this. We wanted to find our own kind of people in the school.
What’s the mission? Provoke thoughtful discussions about film, get out of our comfort zones, find new things, and be social.
Why should students join? It’s a good way to make connections for anyone that is either interested in talking about films or finding new films to watch.
How can new members get started? We meet every Thursday now, and anyone can come as long as they’re enrolled in Kirkwood.
When and where do you meet? Thursdays at 11:15 a.m. in Cedar Hall 2082. We call our meeting room the green room.
What happens at meetings? We do a lot of things, and we do a lot of discussion. I know we’re going to start eventually doing a movie talk. So, we’ll all watch one or two movies that we assign ourselves and then come back the next week and discuss that movie and what we thought.
There was also some discussion about maybe doing our own films or watching student films that other people have done outside of Kirkwood.
We’re probably going to run a couple events like going to a movie together. We’re working on some trivia nights that anyone who goes to Kirkwood is invited to; they don’t have to be part of the club.
