Raising mental health awareness with Active Minds

Kirkwood Club Corner

 What’s the club called?

Active Minds

How did it all begin?

Several counselors wanted to do something where prevention, outreach and student input were a priority and came across information regarding the Active Minds club.

What’s the mission?

Active Minds is a national student-run organization designed to promote mental health awareness and decrease the stigma on college campuses.

Why should students join?

Active Minds provides an opportunity for students to develop creative communication strategies regarding mental health issues and implement thought-provoking activities.  Active Minds allows students to develop leadership skills and increase knowledge of mental health issues and is an excellent resume builder and networking opportunity.

How can new members get started?

Send an email to angie.ziesmanweiler@kirkwood.edu to get on the email list and receive information/updates.

When and where do you meet?

We meet on Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. – noon in 2014 Iowa Hall, unless we are hosting an activity or event.

What happens at meetings?

Our weekly meeting time consists of one of the following:  planning an event, hosting an event or education for the club.
