Student Media wins eight awards 

At the recent Iowa College Media Association annual awards ceremony, Kirkwood Student Media won eight awards. 

The Communiqué, the college’s student newspaper,  won Best Staff Editorial – 3rd place; Best Front Page – 3rd place; Best Online Edition – Outstanding Students – Andrew Schneider – 3rd place; Best Graphic – January Staff Picks – Amanda Bollig – 1st place; and Best Multimedia Slideshow – Cheerleaders – Jessica McWilliams – Honorable Mention.

Kirkwood Student Productions, the college’s broadcast organization, won Best Video News Program – Student Life Update – Honorable Mention; Best Variety – Music and Comedy Program –   3rd place; and Best Short Film – Honorable Mention.

Anxiety: How to help yourself and others 

Did you know anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting 40 million adults ages 18 and older? Anxiety disorders are highly treatable. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of individuals with anxiety receive treatment.

Writing Center help  

The Writing Centers on the main and Iowa City campuses are open. Students can register and schedule 30-minute appointments on MyHub (Student Links, Support, Writing Center Main Campus/Iowa City Campus). Appointments can be scheduled up to 10 days ahead of time. 

Open Monday – Friday, the main campus Writing Center is in 2080 Cedar Hall, and the Iowa City location is in Room 134 of the Credit Center. Students who are unable to use the Writing Center are welcome to submit their writing to the Kirkwood Center for Online Writing at www.kirkwood.edu/cow
