Arts event at NewBo

Celebrate the arts of Kirkwood at the Visual and Performing Arts Celebration on May 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at NewBo City Market. 

There will be a free outdoor concert on the NewBo lawn and a Visual Art and Theatre Exhibition at the Cherry Building.

Blood drive

Kirkwood nursing will host a blood drive on Monday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 2154 Linn Hall. Donating blood is a free and easy way to support local patients and hospitals. Each donation will help make sure that patients have the resources they need.

Food trucks are back

Popular area food trucks are back on campus. Comfort Food 154, Rocking 5K BBQ, Smiley’s Soup & Sandwich, and County Line BBQ will be on campus on various dates from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Respiratory therapy

Mayo Clinic invited Kirkwood’s Respiratory Therapy Program and other respiratory therapy programs around the area and surrounding states to compete in several clinical challenges on March 3-5. Kirkwood’s RT program took third place.

Four students from the program attended. In addition to the group performance, one Kirkwood student took third place for individual performance.

Writing Center help  

The Writing Centers on the main campus and Iowa City campus are open. Students can register and schedule 30-minute appointments on MyHub (Student Links, Support, Writing Center Main Campus/Iowa City Campus). Appointments can be scheduled up to 10 days in advance. 

Open Monday – Friday, the main campus Writing Center is in 2080 Cedar Hall and the Iowa City location is in Room 134 of the Credit Center. Students who are unable visit the Writing Centers can submit their writing to the Kirkwood Center for Online Writing at

Graduation is right around the corner

Kirkwood’s 2022 commencement ceremony is on Saturday, May 14, at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse. 

Students completing their final program at Kirkwood in Fall 2021, Spring 2022, or Summer 2022, should submit a graduation application. Those planning to participate in the commencement ceremony, can purchase a cap and gown at the Grad Fair on Thursday, April 28, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Bookstore on the main campus.

Pet Grooming

The Pet Grooming program has a new online system for booking pet grooming appointments. 

Choose appointment times that are convenient and customize the grooming services for your dog or cat. 



Join an intramural at Kirkwood to meet new friends. Intramurals provide competitive, recreational activities for participants of any skill level. 

Structured leagues and tournaments are offered in a variety of team and individual events, including:

  • Fantasy football
  • Esports

Kirkwood night at the Kernels 

Join us for Kirkwood night at the ballpark on Wednesday, May 4. The Cedar Rapids Kernels will battle Quad Cities at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. Students can get a free ticket by showing their EagleCard at the Kirkwood tent outside the main gate from 5:30 p.m. – 6:40 p.m.

Veterans Memorial Stadium is located at 950 Rockford Rd. SW in Cedar Rapids.

Free Bowling

From 3 – 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, show your EagleCard at May City Bowl for free bowling.

Virtual bingo 

Join students from participating community colleges across the state as we give away a minimum of $350 in prizes to 20+ students. All you need to do is be an Iowa Community College student and show up (virtually). It’s that easy. We’ll provide the website and info on how to play when you log on.
