Lack of motivation is something many students may be feeling this time of year.
The Learning Commons hosted an event called “Organization and Motivation” on Oct. 5. The session was designed to help students learn strategies to stay motivated and organized throughout the school year.
Located on the second floor of Cedar Hall, the Learning Commons is where students can get academic help. “Our goal is to be the hub for academic supports on campus,” said Myranda Hadley, academic coach.
Students can visit the Learning Commons for study support, learning assistance and academic coaching. Academic coaches help students set goals, manage time and develop strategies for success while study support offers walk-in help for specific subjects.
The event focused on helping students understand the support options available to them and offered tips to strengthen motivation and organization.
Attendees received materials on academic success strategies and student assistance resources. “I truly think the Learning Commons has something for everybody,” Hadley said.
The event highlighted the importance of time management as a lifelong skill and encouraged students to build positive habits using the “three R’s” of habit formation: reminders, routines and rewards.
A reminder is the trigger or cue that initiates the behavior, such as an alarm signaling it’s time to exercise. A routine is the actual behavior or action a person performs in response to that cue. A reward is the positive outcome that reinforces the behavior, making an individual more likely to repeat it.
