Outstanding Students

Amelia Damewood

Where are you from? Alta, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? It really gave me a sense of home on my visit. The staff were so welcoming, and I could really tell they cared about each of their students. Kirkwood has so many resources that make sure your transition to college is as easy possible, and I really valued that.

What is your major and how did you choose it? I am majoring in Liberal Arts. This program allows me to explore various classes to be able to be confident when I choose a major at a 4-year college. It has helped me finish all of my general classes to be prepared to transfer.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? My proudest moment at Kirkwood is being selected as an Outstanding Student. I take pride in knowing my hard work pays off outside of the classroom.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? After graduating in May from Kirkwood, I plan to transfer to Morningside University in Sioux City, IA to major in developmental psychology and be a part of their dance team.

What inspires or motivates you? I find inspiration and motivation through my family and friends. They are my biggest supporters and I look up to them in everything I do.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. In my personal life I enjoy dancing, reading, getting outside, watching reality TV and spending time with friends and families.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being named an outstanding student means my hard work is noticed. It reminds me to keep pushing towards my future but appreciate every moment that is taking me there.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I want to thank everyone who has supported me academically and pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
