Outstanding Students

Bert Chirinos

Q: Where are you from? (city, state)

A: I’m originally from Orange County, California and now live in Marion, IA.

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: Because it is fairly close to my home and job.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: Business Management is my major and I chose it because it will help me advance at my current job.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: There has been many proud moments, but my proudest moment will come when I graduate with an Associates Degree.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: I plan to transfer to the University of Iowa and enroll in the Tippie College of Business.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: As a non-traditional student, what motivates me is knowing that it doesn’t matter at what age you are, you can still accomplish goals that you set out for yourself.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: I enjoy traveling, exercising at the gym, listening to all types of music and binge watching Netflix shows. I also enjoy spending quality time at home with my wife and dog.

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: It shows how hard I’ve worked to get good grades and something I should be proud of.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A: Kirkwood has been good to me. As a non-traditional student I was nervous going to school, but the faculty here has been great and have made it comfortable for me to learn.
