Basketball season is underway. The Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball team have had a very strong start in the preseason winning many games and playing a lot to get experience for their younger team.
The Eagles are ranked number two in the preseason rankings so expectations for the year are sky high.
In their final game of the preseason they hosted John Woods Community College where right away they went on a 7-2 lead in scoring by Demetria Prewitt getting some nice feeds in the paint.
The team went on another 8-2 lead by Lizzy Puot scoring six of those eight points during that run to end the first quarter leading 21-10.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Eagles looked a little flustered at times forcing passes leading to turnovers. The other team scored in transition giving up a 7-0 run bringing it to 26-21 where scoring was back and forth for the rest of the quarter.
Coming out of halftime, the third quarter was all Kirkwood, only giving up seven total points being led by some phenomenal defense by Zhakyla Evans forcing many turnovers in the full court press.
The scoring was led by balanced scoring from Prewitt and Kaylee Corbin going into the fourth quarter with a lead of 52-35
In the fourth quarter it was all Kirkwood again, this time being led by Taylor Curry hitting a pair of threes putting up eight in the quarter of Kirkwood’s 14 points securing the win in their last preseason game.
The Eagles ended up having a balanced game with 11 players getting marked on the score sheet and seven having five or more points.
Puot led with 10 points, Prewitt with nine points and Curry with eight.
