Eagles Weekly

Eagles Weekly | October 12-18, 2026

To surprise nobody, this was again a dominant week for Kirkwood Eagles. Volleyball played in three matches and took him three wins. While golf played in their first match up meet of the year, and finished the golf meet in first place. All while men’s and women’s basketball continue their preseason match ups before their season’s start in November.

Eagles Weekly is a weekly article that summarizes all six of Kirkwood’s athletics. In these articles you can read summaries of each game, and which student-athletes have been shining the most. At the bottom of the article, two athletes are chosen for the “Eagles of the Week” honor which is given to the two Eagles who shined the brightest for that edition.

ICCAC Match Play

To begin the week, Kirkwood traveled to Lake Panorama, IA to compete in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Match Play golf meet. Instead of taking total scores from each hole, match plays are determined by head-to-head matchups between two teams. Kirkwood went undefeated for the tournament, and beat Hawkeye Community College 3-2, Des Moines Area Community College 4-1 and Mount Mercy University 3-2. Kirkwood ended up being the only team undefeated, and took home first place in the matchplay. Sophomore Ted Sargeant won each of his three matchups. Freshmen AJ Sposato and Jack Rogers, as well as sophomore Dean Roberts all won two matchups.

Eagles of the Week

Ted Sargeant: Went undefeated in the ICCAC match play tournament

In the first match up meet for the Kirkwood golf team, only one Eagle went undefeated, that being Ted Sargeant. He went head-to-head against two strong junior colleges as well as a good Mount Mercy team that had previously defeated Kirkwood so far this fall, and he finished all three match ups with a win. Sergeant’s contributions are a large reason for Kirkwood finishing in first place. This is Sargeant’s second Eagle of the Week honor.

Yasmine Sell: 7 sets, 22 kills, 3.14 kills per set, .422 hitting percentage

With the volleyball season on the home stretch, Yasmine Sell helped lead the Eagles to three more wins and sweeps. In the seven sets she appeared in, the outside hitter compiled 22 total kills on a .422 hitting percentage. This was good enough for a strong 3.14 kills per set. Sell has taken a big step up in the second half of the season, and is a big reason why Kirkwood is undefeated so far. This is Sell’s second Eagle of the Week honor.
