The Kirkwood women’s basketball team finished the 2020-21 season strong with a win over USC Salkehatchie 84-78 at Hickory, North Carolina on Saturday, April 24. The Eagles record for this season was 24-2.
The 2009 D11 NCJAA champs led the entire game. The Eagles had slight lead at halftime, with the score being 37-33. It appeared the Eagles were too good for the Indians as they held on to the win in the second half. Kirkwood finished 5th in the NCJAA D11 2021 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Despite falling to Illinois Central in the quarter finals, it was still a great season. The Eagles won the ICCAC Conference and had the No. 1 overall seed in the D11 NCJAA tournament. With the loss, USC Salkehatchie finished the 2020-21 campaign 20-2 and 6th place overall.
Ashley Tull had a tremendous season and made the All-American team. She grabbed 14 points and 7 boards. Tull walked away with 3 blocks and 3 steals in the win.
Kortney Drake also had a good game as she scored 14 points, 7 dimes, and 4 steals. Tatiana Hodges-Johnson dropped 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. It was a season to remember for the lady Eagles and their fans.
For the Indians, Mariah Igus had an outstanding game as she dropped 25 points in the losing effort. Andre`sia Alexander scored 16 points and Omari Kirkland scored 12 points.
