Back home! The eighth-ranked Kirkwood Community College Eagles men’s basketball team took on the Spoon River Snappers in Johnson Hall on Monday, Nov. 28. The Eagles defeated the Snappers, 62-61 to move to 8-1. The team’s only loss was an away game to Lake Land College, 79-74.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Cassius Brooks, who scored 20 points, went six-for-seven from the field and eight-for-eight from the free-throw line. Brooks took one three-point but missed.

Ayrouba Berthe was second to Brooks in scoring, collecting 14 points, going four-for-six from the field, two-for-four from three, and four-for-five from the free-throw line. The Eagles had a balanced attack that could not be stopped in the second half.

The Eagles wen 21-for-61 from the field, five-for-16 from three, and 21-for-24 from the free-throw line in the game. Respective percentages are included in the box score on www.kirkwoodeagles.com.

The Eagles defeated John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill., over Veteran’s Day weekend, 98-83. They competed against John Wood again on Nov. 30, in Johnson Hall. The Eagles won, 71-61.

The game on Dec. 3 was part of a split doubleheader against the Northeast Community College Hawks. There are two more split doubleheaders on Dec. 10 vs. the Iowa Western Reivers and on Dec. 17 vs. the DMACC Bears, the last game before the holiday break.

After the holiday break, the Eagle basketball teams will travel to Southwestern and then to Iowa Central.

The Eagles have beaten some quality teams in the 2022-23 season, that is why they are the eighth-ranked team in NJCAA Division II and in first place in the ICCAC through nine games.

The Eagles are 10-1 (1-0 ICCAC).
