Outstanding Students

Jenna Stanley

Q: Where are you from? (city, state)

A: Born and raised in Houlton, Maine. I moved to Iowa in high school.

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: It’s a smart financial choice.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: My mom suggested I look into it and I liked that I could help people in healthcare without having to be hands on with patients.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: My proudest moment was in Intermediate Computer Business Applications when my teacher Sandra O’Brien received an email from the 2019 MOS US National Championships letting her know I scored third highest in Iowa in the 2016 MOS PowerPoint Certification Exam; I was unaware our exam scores influenced anything other than our grade in the class. My teacher had never had that happen before so it felt great to show her how much I had learned from her.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: Travel and attain a job in the health information management field.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: My family and friends.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: I like to be active outdoors. One of my favorite hobbies is riding my tandem recumbent bike with my friend so we can pick up cans and bottles on the side of the road to help clean up the litter in Cedar Rapids and Solon. I also enjoy spending my free time with family.

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: It means that all my hard work paid off and the effort that I put into academics was worthwhile.
