Library offers variety of databases to meet research needs

Our library is known for having access to many databases, covering a wide array of subjects for the many different classes offered here on campus.

While starting research with broad search terms on a more general database is a good starting point, using one with a specific focus can also be helpful.  Spend less time rummaging through unwanted articles by using a database with a distinct focus to find more relevant articles. The Kirkwood Library gives access to these types of databases, in addition to others, that allow you to discover exactly what you are looking for.

Below are some unique search options that you can access as a Kirkwood student.

Artstor and JSTOR Image Search – JSTOR might be known for offering academic articles, but they also have an extensive collection of digitized art, posters, sculptures, textiles, photographs, and much more.

The database features art and images from many eras and geographical locations from numerous museums from all over the world.  If you are taking an art class and need inspiration or resources for a project, this is the place to go.  The Library also has citation help for citing artwork on our website.

Internet Archive Free Ebooks – Internet Archive is known for having millions of digitized resources free for use.  This collection contains ebooks from library and personal collections. This collection ranges from digitized rare books, website archives, user manuals, and much more across many subjects.  Some materials may require a free Internet Archive account to access or borrow.

ERIC – This education focused database is maintained by the U.S. Department of Education, and provides articles on teaching, training, and trends in education.  There are articles as well as studies, reports and informational guides.  Many articles can also be useful in research on childhood development, psychology and sociology.

Project Gutenberg – Ebooks are the focus of this database, where you can find academic books as well as literary classics that are now in the public domain.  They range from rare books to fiction to select audio books, and contain works in 67 languages.

No external account or software is needed to view these resources as the aim of the database is to provide free access to literary and academic works.
