What’s the club called? Student Ambassadors
How did it all begin?
Our Student Ambassador program has been part of Admissions for many years. The goal was, and still is, to help prospective students and their families experience campus through the voices of current students.
The program was inspired by the idea that student-to-student connection is one of the most powerful tools in the college decision process.
Student Ambassadors support campus visits by sharing their own experiences, answering real questions, and helping visitors picture themselves as Kirkwood students.
What’s the mission?
As a student ambassador at Kirkwood Community College, you serve as a representative of the college and an influential resource for prospective students and their families.
Why should students join?
Joining Student Ambassadors gives students the chance to build leadership and communication skills while sharing and representing Kirkwood.
It’s also a great way to connect with other student leaders, build confidence and make a meaningful impact on prospective students’ visits.
How can new members get started?
Our Student Ambassador group is selective, but we are always looking for new ambassadors. Students that are interested in getting started are encouraged to reach out to Maia Korsmo or Nick Kettmann to learn more and chat about the process.
When and where do you meet?
We meet biweekly on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Cedar Hall 3074.
What happens at meetings?
Our meetings are usually a mix of both connection and preparation. We use the time to get to know each other, go through additional ambassador training and sign up for upcoming admissions events like Campus Visit Days.
Outside of meetings, we also host plenty of social events including bowling, ice skating, game nights, dinners out and supporting other student life and athletic events. One of the best parts of the group is how much fun we have together!
Anything else students should know?
We’re just getting started with a new semester and would love to welcome new students to join. Students are always encouraged to reach out anytime—we’re happy to connect and answer questions!
