‘Dedication to Diversity’: International Education Week highlights college’s diversity

International Education Week is set for Nov. 15 through Nov. 19, hosted by the Global Learning office at Kirkwood Community College. The week is set to bring international students and the Kirkwood community together.

The International Education Week is set to have loads of activities for students and even some community members to participate in. From entertainment and refreshments to a potluck Global Learning is ready to celebrate.

According to International Student Advisor Shannon Ingleby, the week helps showcase international students and their communities as well as Kirkwood’s commitment to diversity.

“We want to increase the understanding and inclusion of international students and international communities on college campuses and celebrate their diversity,” Ingleby said. “One of the main things we do is help everyone at Kirkwood to experience diversity and have an intercultural experience while there at Kirkwood.”

Kirkwood has dozens of international students and a successful study abroad program that encapsulates Kirkwood as one of the top community colleges in the nation in Global Learning.

“International students are only a small part of what this office does, from study abroad opportunities and virtual experiences, to sponsored students that are sponsored by the State Department,” Ingleby said.

“We’ve been recognized as leaders of comprehensive internationalization and that’s something that we’re proud of,” she added.
