Outstanding Students

ReJoana Duah

Where are you from?

I am from Accra, Ghana.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I chose Kirkwood because I wanted a small institution that will make me feel at home and wanted to be closer to my family as well. I got into Temple University in Philadelphia, but I did not see myself to be in such a huge institution. I decided to opt for Kirkwood which has been one of my best decisions.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

I do not have a major, because Kirkwood does not have a pre-pharmacy program. I am in the Liberal Arts and Science getting my prerequisites completed for pharmacy school. After my prerequisites, I will enroll into either an accelerated pharmacy school or a 4-year pharmacy school to obtain a PharmD.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

My proudest moment has been being in the dean’s list two times in a row with vigorous science classes. I had so many doubts but with determination and hard work I was able to get through it with awesome grades.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

My long-term goals inspire me to keep working harder because I know the future ahead of me is bright. It is disheartened seeing so many people dying because they can’t afford medications being prescribed for them due to disparities and much more. I want to be the voice for the voiceless.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

Outside of school, I don’t do much because I am an introverted person. I enjoy learning new recipes and love watching makeup tutorials.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

Being named as an Outstanding Student means I am doing more than is required. This serves as a pillar and motivation to keep working hard because I am on the right path. I moved to America about five years ago, so being able to adjust to the education system and keeping up with the good work makes me proud. The bottom is too crowded, I must strive to be at the top one day.
