Outstanding Students

Brailyn Tankersley

Where are you from?

Maxwell, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I chose Kirkwood for the small classes and for the atmosphere.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

I graduated from the Culinary Arts program in December of 2021 and now I’m getting my Bakery and Pastry Arts degree. I chose it because it is what I have wanted to do since I was twelve.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

Receiving many accolades for my talent in culinary arts and really showing how great my talent is.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

My goal is to eventually open a restaurant of my own.

What inspires or motivates you?

My family, instructors and friends all inspire me because they always believe in me no matter what. Along with my nieces and nephews as I want to show them that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

I have two older brothers and an older sister. In my free time I love to be back home with my family and spend time with them.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

Being named an Outstanding Student is an absolute honor to me. This award shows me that my talent and hard work has been recognized and I am forever grateful for my instructors and the culinary department for bringing me out of my shell to really showcase my talents.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way.
