Outstanding Students

Jacob Whitmore

Where are you from? I am from Bellevue, Iowa

Why did you choose Kirkwood? It offers many opportunities to pursue a career. The schedule is very flexible to be able to work and spend time with family and friends. Also, Kirkwood is not too far away from my home.

What is your major and how did you choose it? I chose to go into the Architecture program, because I have a lot of interest in the process of how a home gets built. I have helped build many homes and seen how most of the steps in the process work.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? I am very proud of the work ethic I have, as many professors and others have come to notice how well I take my roles and responsibilities.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? After I graduate, I plan to stay with the company I am currently working at, to advance and take on more roles. I would like to get into the design field someday, when the right opportunity is available, I would really like to become my own general contractor.

What inspires or motivates you? I believe my father motivates me the most, he is always giving me advice and pushing me to get a degree and to do my best in life. When I wake up in the morning, I ask myself “how bad do I want it?” You ask yourself that question and you should know how badly you want it.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. I like to spend time with family and friends, and just about any outdoor activity (fishing, hunting, racing, boating).

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? When you have the effort and commitment to improve your knowledge in the skill you are learning, also by accomplishing the requirements the professors have. By doing both of these on every task that you are in charge of eventually the professor will acknowledge how well you are trying. Also, trying your hardest leads to good work ethic and academic records that many others will recognize.
