Where are you from? I grew up and still live in Anamosa, Iowa.
Why did you choose Kirkwood? I didn’t really choose Kirkwood. My work, MSI Mold Builders sends interns to Kirkwood so this is where I went. it is also closer to my work, so this worked out for me.
What is your major and how did you choose it? CNC Machining Technologies Program. I chose this path because I started a new job, and they sent me to school for this program. My brother also graduated out of this program a few years earlier and was very influential in guiding me into machining.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? I think my proudest moment is now being able to program and run a CNC mill and lathe without ever having learned anything about them in the past. I only took one industrial tech class in all 4 years of high school.
What are your plans after Kirkwood? I plan to work more and maybe even take more time to myself.
What inspires or motivates you? I think the thing that motivated me the most is my drive to do a good job. I also really enjoyed this program and the chance to run machines to make projects for myself and my family. I truly became a machinist.
Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. Working on my car, bike lawn mowers, and tractor. hunting and fishing.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? When I started, I only expected to do the first 2 semesters of this program but I was talked into finishing what I started by my instructors and family. Being named outstanding student is gratification for all the hard work I have done for the past 2 years to get to where I am today.
Is there anything else you’d like to add? I want to thank all of my instructors for teaching me everything I have learned here at Kirkwood. I will now be working in industry and will continue to use the many things I have learned at Kirkwood.
