Outstanding Students

Jameson MacGregor

Where are you from? I am a military brat and grew up all around the world. I moved to Waterloo, Iowa my senior year of high school.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I wanted a college that truly cared about my success, where I wasn’t “lost” among the thousands of students. Plus, the Kirkwood Nursing program is one of the toughest in the State, and yet has one of the highest NCLEX pass rates.

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is nursing, and I plan on getting my BSN and focus on Forensic Nursing Examiner (FNE).

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? I have had a few proud moments at Kirkwood. Making the Dean’s list for every semester I have attended, being selected for the Nursing program, being selected for the Honor’s program and now for the Outstanding Student award.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? To earn my BSN as well as a Forensic Nursing degree, so that I can work to help others.

What inspires or motivates you? My husband inspires and motivates me every single day to be better than I was the day before. My children also inspire me, I want them to follow their dreams.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. I am married, have 6 kids and 3 grandkids. I am a Black belt in Taekwondo/mixed martial arts, a runner, weightlifter, and LOVE true crime/Forensics.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Besides still being a shock, it’s incredible. I always thought that this kind of recognition was for others. It’s an incredible honor.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? A huge thank you to Dr. Amy Clancy for believing and nominating me, when I grow up, I want to be just like you. Thank you to Dana Trejo for your friendship and guidance.
