Outstanding Students

Jessica Peters

Where are you from?

Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I chose Kirkwood because it is close to home and has small class sizes and focuses on student success.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

Veterinary Technician. I chose the program because I was working in the field and wanted to further my education and become a registered technician.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

I don’t necessarily have a specific “moment” per se but going through the program and meeting some incredible people and animals is something I am proud of. It’s crazy what can happen in two years; I really enjoyed seeing my peers get engaged or get married, buy their first home, adopt a new pet or start a family. I can’t wait to graduate with them and see what the future has in store for all of us.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

Continue working in veterinary medicine. Last summer I did my internship at Graham Animal Hospital and stayed to work part time while finishing the program. They can’t wait for me to come back full time after graduation.

What inspires or motivates you?

Having people in my life who believe in my success. They are proud of even the smallest achievements which inspires and motivates me to do my personal best.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

I like to go out dancing with my friends, see my family, go on trips with my husband, and hang out with my pets. I have a sweet kitty named Leo and a puppy named Wally. When I have additional free time I like to find new shows and movies to watch as well as play “Animal Crossing.”

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

I feel so honored that my professors elected me for Outstanding Student. It is gratifying that they recognize the hard work and dedication that their students put into their education.
