Outstanding Students

Normita Watson

Where are you from?

Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I attended Kirkwood right out of High School in 2007 and loved it. Life happened and I was unable to finish. Once I was able to return to school to finish my degree I had no desire to start anywhere else. I will highly recommend my children attending as well.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

Business Administration: Management

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

Making the Dean’s List every semester and being selected as an Outstanding Student.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

I want to further my education and work toward a bachelor’s degree.

What inspires or motivates you?

Myself and my kids. I want to show them that although life may have a different plan, it is never too late or impossible to finish what you started or want to accomplish.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

I am a full-time wife, mom and employee. I work at the University of Iowa and have 3 kids. I enjoy bowhunting, kayaking, fishing, reading, camping and traveling when possible.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

It means everything. It means showing my kids I still got it. If I can raise them, run a house, work full-time and complete a degree, they can help wash dishes and still get their schoolwork completed, right?

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you for recognizing my hard work and all the other Outstanding Students’ hard work as well. Continue being an inspirational/supportive community to current and future students. Kirkwood will always have a special place in my heart.
