Kirkwood athletics only had one regular season game this week, as Volleyball completed a sweep in exciting fashion. Baseball and softball both played some fun fall-ball scrimmages against colleges in the area.
Eagles Weekly is a weekly article that summarizes all six of Kirkwood’s athletics. In these articles you can read summaries of each game, and which student-athletes have been shining the most. At the bottom of the article, two athletes are chosen for the “Eagles of the Week” honor which is given to the two Eagles who shined the brightest for that edition.
Women’s Volleyball:
September 16
Western Iowa Tech 0 at Kirkwood Community College 3
On their one and only game of the week, the Eagles hosted Western Iowa Tech Community College for a conference matchup in Johnson Hall. In the first set the Eagles got ahead 15-0 by an impressive serving outing from freshman setter Katie Scheckel. Kirkwood would continue to cruise through the match, and would easily end up sweeping the Comets. Sophomore outside hitter Carly Wazac finished the night with 15 kills. Sheckel led the Eagles with 18 assists. Sophomore setter Avery Knoop contributed 12 assists as well as four service aces. Sophomore middle hitter Madalyn Boyer had herself four blocks in the match.

Eagles of the Week
Avery Knoop: one match, 12 assists, four service aces, four digs
In a day where the Eagles played three lopsided sets, sophomore setter Avery Knoop led the way with a team leading four service aces. She also helped create a plethora of opportunities for the team, contributing with 12 total assists. Knoop’s defensive efforts were also on display, as she had four digs in the three sets. This is Knoop’s first Eagle of the Week honor.
Madalyn Boyer: one match, two kills, two service aces, four blocks
Being ranked the number one team in the nation, the Eagles rack up a lot of service aces and blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Madalyn Boyer leads the team in both of these categories. In the one match played this week, compiled two service aces and four blocks. Her presence on the court was extremely impactful for Kirkwood. This is Boyer’s first Eagle of the Week honor.
