After a three day break from games, Kirkwood Community College quickly breezed by Western Iowa Tech Community College in a three-set match.
Freshman setter Katie Scheckel started the match off serving the ball, and after a kill from sophomore outside hitter Carly Wazac, the Eagles took the lead. Something that they would not lose for the remainder of the match.
One serve later, Scheckel picked up a service ace, and quickly the Eagles were leading 2-0 in the first set.
For the next 13 serves the Eagles would find a way to score. Taking an impressive 15-0 lead to start off the day, and eventually winning the set 25-8.
“I’ve never served that many serves in a row before,” said Scheckel. “I wanted to see how far we could get against them before they score.”
Scheckel ended the day with seven kills, 18 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Set two got off to a good start for the Eagles, as they took an early 12-2 lead. However, after a handful of service errors and attack errors, the Comets came back and made things interesting.
“We kind of let go a little bit. Just a couple of unforced errors let (the Comets) back in the game,” said head coach Dave Brown. “(The Eagles) did a good job at making small fixes. It all comes down to serve and pass for us, they fixed it in the third set.”
With 39 total attacks in the second set, Kirkwood had a 14-6 kill-error ratio. Enough for a .205 hitting percentage. Though the Eagles played good enough volleyball to win them the second set, albeit the Comets’ late comeback attempt.
The Eagles went into the third set avoiding another messy round, so they took the initiative and dominated the last set of the day, winning 25-6.
Wazac carried the Eagles on the attacking game, totaling 15 kills on a .636 hitting percentage. Continuing her impressive season as she looks to earn another All-American honor this year.
“Everyone was connecting, and Carly (Wazac) was doing really good too,” said sophomore middle hitter Madalyn Boyer. “I just hope that we continue to grow because every single player here has a chance to grow.”
Boyer finished the night leading the Eagles in blocks with four in total, and she tallied five digs and two service aces.
In the win tonight Kirkwood amassed nine total service aces, with sophomore setter Avery Knoop leading the way with four, while also picking up 12 assists.
The Eagles will have a week break, and on Sep. 23 they will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska to take on Northeast Community College for a conference matchup. 
“We just make sure that we have a game plan. We go out and try to execute it, and hopefully win the serve and pass battle,” Brown said.
