Last January Kirkwood Community College announced its plans to sell the Iowa City Campus and move most of its Iowa City operations, including credit and noncredit classes, to the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa.

The preparation for the move is nearly complete and current Kirkwood students who take classes at the Iowa City Campus have been offered tours of the Coralville location to become familiar with the change.

Iowa City Student Life/Admissions Advisor Kristie Leeman stated, “Public transportation to the regional center will be provided by the CAMBUS Research Park Route. Students are encouraged to use the Transit app in planning public transportation routes.” She added that for students who drive, free parking is available at the front of the building.

As for 2023 summer classes, English Language Acquisition (ELA) and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses will begin at the Kirkwood Regional Center on May 22. Current students can now register for Fall 2023 regional center courses, which are available on the MyHub course catalog.

Leeman noted, “Students will be able to earn a complete Liberal Arts Associate of Arts (LA.AA) degree at the new location, as well as pre-nursing and health profession focused courses and business track coursework.”

The lower level of the regional center will have numerous resources available to students. Leeman said these will include, “TRIO ESL student support services, Student Food Pantry and a Learning Commons, which will provide students with quiet places to study.” She added the lower level will also include computers and IT support, as well as space for writing and tutoring services.

According to Leeman, additional student services will include Academic Advising, Accommodation Services, Admissions, Career Services, Counseling, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, Global Learning, Student Assistance, Student Life events and a Test Center.  The regional center will not have a cafeteria or a library.

Leeman said more information will be posted on the Iowa City Campus and Kirkwood Regional Center websites as it becomes available. The Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa is located at 2301 Oakdale Blvd, in Coralville.
