Study support and snacks at Exam Cram

Final exams are right around the corner meaning the Exam Cram at Kirkwood Community College is back for the end of the 2023 semester. According to Kirkwood Librarian Kate Cameron, the event has taken place at the end of every semester since 2014 and is coming up on its 10 year anniversary.  

Exam Cram events will be held at both the main campus and the regional center in Coralville. 

The event on the main campus will be Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Sundberg Library and Learning Commons from 7:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. Cameron said study help is always provided but this year’s Exam Cram has lots of other elements.  

Free coffee, tea and hot cocoa will be provided as well as snacks and popcorn. A prize drawing will take place and this session includes activities like crafts, coloring and puzzles There will also be two therapy dog visits from 9-10 a.m. and noon-1 p.m.  

In the Learning Commons, 2071 Cedar Hall, Exam Cram activities will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same Thursday. Popcorn will be available and there will be door prizes and drawings along with free study support. 

Cameron said there will be tables set up with activities designed for relaxation including electric massage chairs, time with the therapy dogs, health checks by nursing students and more.  

Once finals week kicks off, the library will be providing coffee, tea, and more to help students through those late nights. There will also be support services available for math, science, accounting, computer skills, nursing, human anatomy and physiology and more as well as research and citation help for all projects.  

The Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa will also be hosting an Exam Cram event on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Learning Commons (Room 052). It will feature some of the same components such as free refreshments, door prizes and walk-in study support.
