Useful study tips and tools

Whether it’s for an online course or an in-person lecture class, studying can be challenging.  To help ease the stress, Kirkwood Community College offers many resources through the Learning Commons.  

Myranda Hadley, academic coach, said the Learning Commons has many resources for students, both in-person and online. “In MyHub under your student links, there are many tools to help when it comes to note taking, studying and more,” she said.  

One of the tools she discussed was Student Lingo, an application that can be found in MyHub. It provides articles that can help students with a majority of their Kirkwood courses. Hadley said the Learning Commons is dedicated to helping students succeed. It offers walk-in and online support from learning assistants and academic coaches. 

 Below are some additional study tools that might help as midterm approaches. 

Quizlet-Quizlet is a study tool that can help you study information through things like flashcards, quizzes and fun games.  Though you have to pay for some features, most of the tools mentioned above are free.  

Grammarly-Grammarly is a browser extension that can help improve your writing and review your essays. This is very helpful in college as you may think you have that perfect paper or writing assignment, but it may just need a couple tweaks Notion-This is a planner to help you organize assignments, due dates and more. You create the planner yourself and design it to your personality and how your workflow works.    

ChatGPT-ChatGPT is an open AI program that uses the prompt you provide to help you with anything you submit. It can help with brainstorming essay topics, lesson planning for education majors, and clarifying ideas.
