Area events planned as chilly weather moves in

As winter comes closer new events are popping up in the area. Keep in mind each location may have different face covering practices. 


What: Small Business Saturday  

When: Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Where: Uptown Marion  

Enjoy holiday music while you shop and dine Uptown. 


What: Dogs at the downs (indoor dog park) 

When: Every Wednesday night November through March 5 – 7:30 p.m. 

Where: North hall Hawkeye Downs 

Cost: $5 per dog. Humans get in free.  Bring your dog out to play in a climate-controlled environment. Proof of vaccinations are required for rabies, parvo and bordetella. 


What: A hiking stick and craft 

Where: Wickiup Hill Learning Center 

When: Friday Dec. 3 

Cost: $5. 

Make a jingle bell hiking stick and enjoy hot chocolate at Wickiup Learning Center. Face masks are required regardless of vaccination status. 


 What: Roller-skating 

Where: Super Skate 

When: Thursday Nov. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  

Cost: Free to Kirkwood students with a student ID. 


What: Ice-skating  

Where: ImOn Arena 

When: Friday Nov. 19 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. 

Cost: Free to Kirkwood students with a student ID 


What: Old World Christmas Market 

Where: National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library 

When: Saturday Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Cost: Free
