It’s that time of year, Kirkwood Community College students are preparing for graduation and reflecting on their time at the college.
The commencement ceremony will be held May 13, at 10 a.m. at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids. The ceremony will include hundreds of students, friends, family and faculty, including speakers and music. The Concert Band will perform and Kirkwood President Dr. Lori Sundberg, along with other faculty, will speak.
As he prepares for graduation, Tanner Shindelar, business major, said his most memorable moment at Kirkwood, was the jazz band concert with guest artist Chad LB.
Emma Dickinson, music major, also discussed one of her most memorable moments at Kirkwood. “It was probably playing in the pit orchestra for the Shrek winter musical,” she said.
Both students had advice for those new to Kirkwood. Shindelar said, “My advice for new students would be to study so you can focus on your homework.”
Dickinson added, “My advice to freshman would be to branch out and get involved in things you haven’t done before.”
Graduating students are encouraged to attend the Graduation Fair on April 27. The event will be from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Kirkwood Bookstore.
Students can purchase a cap and gown, talk with career service advisors and assure they have met all requirements to graduate.
