March events in the corridor

We have been in quarantine for almost a year and it can be hard to find affordable and safe activities. It’s also winter in Iowa so it can be even harder to find something fun to do. Here are a few activities that are low cost or free. Each event has their own social distancing standards.  

What: Adult DIY canvas art 

When: March 4-5   

Where: Hiawatha Public Library  

Cost: FREE 

Registration is required.


What: Just a Walk in the Park Series: Part 4. Learn about Iowa’s flora and fauna including a plant that can bloom in the winter! 

When: March 11, 5-6:30 p.m. 

Where: Wickiup Hill Natural Area, Linn County Iowa

Cost: $2.50 per adult

Event is outside so dress for the weather. 


What: Shed Hunting Foray. Go on a hike in Central Park and look for shed deer antlers. This event is outside so dress for the weather.  

When: March 12, 1-3 p.m.  

Where: Central Park, Center Junction, Jones County Iowa 

Cost: No cost listed. 


What: SaPaDaPaSo Parade 

When: March 13, 2-4 p.m. 

Where: Hawkeye Downs 

Cost: Free

First 200 cars will get a free swag bag with candy coupons and Irish trinkets. 


What: Green Gobblin’ corned beef and cabbage meal

When: March 17, 5-7 p.m.  

Where: Patrick J. Shanahan VFW Post 788, 3240 Southgate Pl. SW, Cedar Rapids 

Cost: $7 


What: It’s Maple Syrupin’ Time. At this event you can learn about how maple syrup is made and even learn how to tap a tree! Event is outside so dress for the weather. 

When: Throughout the month of March 

Where: Indian Creek Nature Center 

Cost: $4 per person

Registration is required.
