You Matter Walk
The Kirkwood Active Minds club is hosting a “You Matter Walk” on Thursday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the outdoor track around the baseball and softball fields.
They will have snacks, an affirmation board, conversation cards and games/activities. Students, faculty and staff are invited.
Kirkwood Fashion Show
The Kirkwood Community College Apparel Merchandising and Design program is holding a fashion show on April 24.
Free ice skating
Students can head to ImOn Ice Arena for free ice skating on Friday, April 8, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Student Awards Banquet April 14
Kirkwood’s Annual Awards Banquet will be Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. The awards recognize students who are part of athletics, performing arts, clubs and organizations and others. Tickets are free and registration is required. Visit www.kirkwood.edu/explore/recreation for more information.
Students can study abroad
Application deadlines have been extended for Summer 2022. Global Learning is located in Linn Hall, Room 1154, on the main campus. Students are assisted in-person or over Zoom.
Tuesday Tune-Up
Attend Kirkwood’s Tuesday Tune-Up about supporting friends who have disclosed information about sexual assault.

Writing Center help
The Writing Centers on the main campus and Iowa City campus are open. Students can register and schedule 30-minute appointments on MyHub (Student Links, Support, Writing Center Main Campus/Iowa City Campus). Appointments can be scheduled up to 10 days in advance.
Open Monday – Friday, the main campus Writing Center is in 2080 Cedar Hall and the Iowa City location is in Room 134 of the Credit Center. Students who are unable visit the Writing Centers can submit their writing to the Kirkwood Center for Online Writing at www.kirkwood.edu/cow.
Intramurals
Join an intramural at Kirkwood to meet new friends. Intramurals provide competitive, recreational activities for participants of any skill level.
Structured leagues and tournaments are offered in a variety of team and individual events, including:
- Flag football
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Softball
- Fantasy football
- Esports

Green Bandana Project
The purpose of the Green Bandana Project is to spread awareness of resources for those with symptoms of depression and/or suicidal thoughts.
After the training, participants carry a few resource cards with them and tie a green bandana on their backpack to indicate they are safe individuals to approach with mental health related needs and know where to find help.
The program promotes a stigma-free and supportive environment.
Students will learn the following at this training:
- Signs and symptoms of depression and/or suicide
- How to respond effectively and refer
- Kirkwood and Community Resources

Freedom of Expression training
In accordance with Iowa House File 744, which was signed into law May 20, 2021, a training has been developed for all students, staff and faculty on freedom of speech and expression.
The training became available to all students and employees on April 1. All members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to take it. Students will access the training through TALON.
Graduation is right around the corner
Kirkwood’s 2022 commencement ceremony is on Saturday, May 14, at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse.
Students completing their final program at Kirkwood in Fall 2021, Spring 2022, or Summer 2022, should submit a graduation application. Those planning to participate in the commencement ceremony, can purchase a cap and gown at the Grad Fair on Thursday, April 28, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Bookstore on the main campus.
Pet Grooming
The Pet Grooming program has a new online system for booking pet grooming appointments.
