News Briefs – April 20, 2023

Exam Cram

Students are invited to participate in several activities and enjoy snacks to help relieve some stress as finals week approaches. The activities will be held at the Library (Benton Hall) and Tutoring Services (2nd Floor, Cedar Hall) on Thursday, April 27, from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Writing help

Students can get free assistance from one of the college’s Writing Center faculty. Logon to https://www.kirkwood.edu/cow and follow the instructions.

Tuesday Tune-Ups

Kirkwood counselors will offer personal growth and improvement sessions to students, staff and faculty on Tuesdays throughout the semester during Activity Hour, from 11:15 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. in 3042 Iowa Hall.  Check out the upcoming session on April 25 – Managing Test Anxiety. 

Free bowling

Head over to May City Bowl for free bowling on Tuesday, April 25 and May 2, from 3 – 5 p.m. Students can scan in at the event using the event check-in QR code located in their MyHub app. May City Bowl is located at 1648 Trent St SW, Cedar Rapids.

Eid al-Fitr

To help students celebrate Eid al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan), snacks will be available in the Student Life Lounge (second floor, Iowa Hall) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, April 24. 

Free roller skating 

Head over to Super Skate for free roller skating on Sunday, April 23, from 1-4 p.m. Students can scan in at the event using the event check-in QR code located in their MyHub app.

 Super Skate is located at 5100 Northland Ave NE, Cedar Rapids.

Free ice skating

Students are invited to take part in free ice skating on Friday, April 28, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids. 

Virtual bingo

On Tuesday, April 25, at 8 p.m., join students from participating community colleges across the state to complete for $350 in prizes to 20+ students. All Iowa community college students can participate. A few minutes before start time, logon using the following link (https://iowacentral-edu.zoom.us/j/89372857806). 

Rock, paper, scissors tournament 

Register to participate in the tournament by downloading the Rec Center app. Tournament will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 4:30 p.m. at the Rec Center.

Bags tournament 

Register to participate in the tournament by downloading the Rec Center app. Tournament will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 5 p.m. at the Rec Center. 

Wiffleball tourney 

Register to participate in the tournament by downloading the Rec Center app. Tournament will be held Thursday, April 27, at 4:30 p.m. at the Rec Center. 

Free mini golf

Join the fun at Airport National Golf from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., show your EagleCard and play a round of mini golf or get a free bucket of range balls on Friday, April 28, and Friday, May 5.
