The Hotel at Kirkwood will be the location for the 2022 Kirkwood Fashion Show, Evolve. Marifer Recendez, Promotions Coordinator for the fashion show, said, “It is going to be really good. It’s exciting putting everything together along with our message this year.” Recendez was tasked with getting the word out with fundraiser posters and social media promotions.
The Kirkwood Fashion Show is an annual event for the students in the Apparel Merchandising program, but this year will be a return to an in-person show after cancelling last year’s event due to COVID. The fashions presented are typically based on a theme linked with a social awareness component.
The runway models go through an audition and come from a variety of sources including friends of the designers and first year apparel students. Each designer in the class has a model who they get to style. The program Retail and Design Coordinators get the final say on whose designs get to walk the runway.
The show will have entries in several categories including children’s wear, student and the main event. The main event is the themed portion of the show that links 90’s fashion with concerns for the environment. The backdrop and runway will feature elements of the theme.
During intermissions attendees can peruse the exhibit tables displaying the culmination of students’ work in the apparel merchandising program, both first and second year students. This is a great way to see what is on the minds of the newest fashion designers launching from the program.
Evolve will take place at The Hotel at Kirkwood, April 24. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show commencing at 6 p.m.
