Outstanding Students

Karli Michael

Where are you from?

I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I chose Kirkwood as an affordable and good transitional education option before diving into a pharmaceutical doctorate at the University of Iowa.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

I recently graduated with an Associate in Science from Kirkwood with my “major” being pre-pharmacy.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

My favorite moments at Kirkwood have been growing with my classmates inside the classroom and even getting together outside of campus. Most of the people in my classes are following similar paths as me so it has been super fun to advance and continue through classes together.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

Moving forward from Kirkwood, I will attend the University of Iowa’s College of Pharmacy where I plan to graduate with a doctorate and be employed at a children’s hospital.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

Outside of Kirkwood, I love spending time with friends, working with children and working as a pharmacy technician at the UIHC pharmacy and going shopping.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

To me, being an outstanding student doesn’t mean always having the best grades or the most accurate lab data, but it means being a dependable and active student, a fun-loving classmate and appreciating everything that goes into being a student at Kirkwood.
