Outstanding Students

Linh Tong

Where are you from? Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I chose Kirkwood because I have received very generous financial support from the Kirkwood Foundation. That has eliminated my financial burden and assisted me in my academic journey.

What is your major, and how did you choose it? I major in Mathematics because I love solving problems and working with logic.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? I was notified to be the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? I plan to transfer to The University of Iowa for an actuarial science major and a computer science minor.

What inspires or motivates you? I always tell myself that my future success isn’t just for myself alone but for all of my loved ones. My parents have funded me with minimal resources, and I am responsible for protecting them and improving their lives once I can.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. I like swimming, crocheting, taking photos, and traveling. I also love planning for my day, like scheduling when to do my assignments, go to the Rec Center, or meet up with my friends.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? When the invitation arrived, I realized that my time at Kirkwood was about to end. Since my first year, I have been telling myself to do my best and make the most out of my time in college. I am glad I made it to this glorious end of the journey with all the encouragement from my family, friends, and mentors and that my presence at Kirkwood has made some impact.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I would like to thank Professor Susan Harthun, Phil Koopman, and Steve Wolcott for their help and support during my time at Kirkwood.
