Outstanding Students

Madeline Greene

Where are you from? I am originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. I have lived in the Cedar Rapids area for about 10 years.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? It is an excellent school with staff and instructors who truly care about the students. The Parks and Natural Resources program is an amazing program. I have learned so much and had many amazing hands-on learning opportunities that I do not think I could have experienced anywhere else!

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is Parks and Natural Resources. I chose it because I love all things nature and I hope to spend my career inspiring others to love and protect it as well.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? It is hard to choose because there have been so many times where I have learned new skills, or been encouraged by an instructor, or have had the opportunity to lead people in my field. I think my proudest moment could be summed up by saying that I am proud that I get to be an alumni of the Kirkwood Parks and Natural Resources program!

What are your plans after Kirkwood? I plan to continue my education at Upper Iowa University where I will get a bachelor’s degree in Conservation Management. My career goals are to be a conservation education specialist at a park or nature center. I would love to be an instructor/professor of Natural Resources at a community college.

What inspires or motivates you? I am both inspired and motivated by sharing my love of nature with others. It is amazing to see others learn something new about the natural world and ultimately fall in love with nature too!

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood? I am a wife and mom of 3 children! We love to go on adventures which can look like a cross-country road trip or maybe a simple hike to a local creek. We love to hike, tent camp, visit museums, read, and spend quality time together!

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being named for the Parks and Natural Resources program is such an honor. It has been a privilege to get a degree while learning about what I love and to do it in such a great environment with wonderful people around me!

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I just want to thank each of my instructors for championing and mentoring me! You are all the best and you’re making a huge impact in the future of Natural Resources.
