Outstanding Students

Ronda Broulik

Q: Where are you from? (city, state)

A: Iowa City, Iowa

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: I chose Kirkwood because as a non-traditional student I felt that Kirkwood was an appropriate steppingstone for me to transition back onto a path of education.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: What is your major and how did you choose it?

Currently, I am working towards a Liberal Arts Degree here at Kirkwood. I will graduate in December of this year (2021). My intentions have been to major in Psychology. I admire Psychology because my passion has always been assisting others and trying to improve their quality of life. However, I’m highly driven towards Nursing now since the recent pandemic. I still desire to focus on mental health regardless.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: My proudest moments at Kirkwood have been learning Spanish, maintaining good grades, being on the dean’s list every semester, positively influencing and assisting others, and being nominated for an outstanding student award twice now.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: After Kirkwood I would like to continue my education at the University of Iowa working towards a degree in Psychology or applying for the nursing program here at Kirkwood.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: Helping people and setting a good example for my children is what motivates me most. I like to help people recognize their strengths and I try to provide them with resources to cope with everyday problems and serious adversity.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: Outside of Kirkwood I am a full-time mother and wife. I enjoy spending time with my family baking, playing games, gardening, roller blading, swimming, and attending seasonal events. Otherwise, I enjoy spending my “me” time kicking it with my bestie.

Q: What does be named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: Being named an Outstanding Student to me means stepping outside of your comfort zone and being a curious person who embraces challenges and learning from them. It means helping those you see struggling near you and being willing to embrace whatever comes your way.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A: I truly believe energy attracts energy and the least we can do every day is to try. I am thankful for the abundant support I have that has equipped me with having the attitude to excel in whatever I do. I am earnestly grateful for the recognition I have received for my work.
