Study at the library: Boost your grades and happiness

Don’t overlook the library when you’re looking for a place to study. You already know that the Library has resources and helpful people, but The Sundberg Library and Learning Commons also offers excellent study spaces, including quiet corners, collaborative zones, computer lab space, and soft seating. This flexibility lets you tailor your study environment to meet your needs.

Focused learning can be difficult when your family, roommates, Netflix, or game console provide ready distractions. When you want to avoid distractions, head upstairs to the quiet study spaces on the second floor. There you will find large tables to spread out, comfortable nooks where you can hide away among the books, or a window area full of plants and natural light. Any of these quieter spaces will be ideal for sustained focus.

The Library is also a great place for collaborative learning. There is a positive link between social engagement and students’ overall well-being. Meeting your classmates at the Library creates a sense of community, reducing feelings of loneliness and stress.

Group study sessions in the Library can deepen your understanding of subjects and sharpen your critical thinking skills. You and your classmates can share ideas and help one another make connections between your course concepts. Ask at the front desk for a group study room or bring your group to an open area on the ground floor.

Taking breaks while studying is important, and the Library has you covered. We have clean and welcoming facilities where you can spend hours comfortably. Take a stretch while you peruse the popular books section for your next pleasure read.

When you need refreshment, just outside the main doors are a snack and drink machine. You can even watch a movie—we’ve got you covered with a number of free streaming options that allow you to enjoy movies on your device or on one of the Library’s computers. (Pro-tip: ask for headphones at the desk if you’ve forgotten to bring your own.)

The library is a hub for academic success and personal growth. Spending your study time in the Library’s quiet and collaborative spaces can help you improve your grades, find satisfaction, and make your academic journey more fulfilling. Plus, it’s free and open in the evenings and on weekends.

So, when deciding where to study, give the library a thought—it might be the key to unlocking your academic potential.
