Welcome to the dentist, we’ve got fun and games

“People who drink 3 or more glasses of soda each day have 62% more tooth decay, fillings and tooth loss than others.”  According to childrensdentalvillage.net,

Currently at Kirkwood Community College a preventative solution has presented itself in the form of a dental night.

The dental night will occur on Nov. 12  from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kirkwood Court-Campus View clubhouse. The event is being organized by KCC’s Dental Hygiene Program Director, Shaunda Clark.

“The importance of oral health is Having students understand that  prevention is very inexpensive and it’s an easy way main health rather than having to have care which sometimes is expensive and sometimes they don’t have resources to go have that care,” Clark said.

KCC will provide food and on-site support during the event.

“We will have our supervising dentist work with us to do screenings of students and answering questions regarding oral health,” continued Clark.

There will be 19 students assisting from the dental health program. Students will be conducting educational activities, teaching about oral health and hosting games.

“The focus is not one patient at a time but bringing education to a community. … Also when future dental hygienist graduate from our program they have gain experience and are able to go out into dental offices and be employed,” Clark explained.
