Students should make time for news

A lot has been going on in the news with the upcoming election,  natural disasters, world conflicts and more. However, many people, especially students, aren’t watching the news for several reasons.

These reasons may include their lack of time, having to work long hours, or simply being uninterested. Some people also do not want to watch it because of the amount of negativity in the world.

While it’s good to not consume some of the negative news, it’s still important to pay attention to current events that may be impacting your daily life.

The news is at our fingertips, accessing it from our devices to the radio and TV, so it’s surprising how little some people utilize it. Many people only use the news to check sports or daily weather which helps them to decide what to wear that day or even prepare for bad coming weather.

The news is a great source to learn about not only the day’s weather and sport updates, but also breaking updates, road conditions, schools, the safety of the community, new studies, finance, upcoming and ongoing events, and more.

While it’s hard to face the negatives of the world and easy to spiral into it, it’s better to be aware of the situations around. Being unaware about what’s going on can negatively impact you.

Of course, one of the main things driving people away from the news is biased news outlets. Many news stations have opposing views that clearly lean toward one side instead of just reporting the facts.

Read and watch news sources that let people decide their own opinions of the matter.

It’s also important to look at different news sources and discover a multitude of breaking news and updates.

As a student, it is crucial to follow the news because it draws attention to current events that can impact your daily life. Consider taking an hour out of your day to be more informed on what is going on, and stay up-to-date with trusted news sources.
