Outstanding Students

April McGriff

Where are you from? I am from Boone, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I chose Kirkwood Community College because they provide a unique learning environment for hospitality students with plenty of hands-on learning experience. I also love the student to faculty ratio. It has allowed me to make connections with other students and my professors.

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is Hospitality Management. I chose this major because I want to be able to help others create lasting memories. I also want to make people feel welcome and at home while they travel.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? My proudest moment at Kirkwood was being able to talk to my high school about all my accomplishments because of Kirkwood and the hospitality program.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? I plan to attend the Disney College Program where I will live on property, partake in leadership and hospitality classes and work for the “Big Mouse.” This has been a dream of mine since I was a child, so I am excited that it is finally coming true.

What inspires or motivates you? My future goals and seeing all my previous accomplishments inspire and motivate me to go after my dreams and be the best person I can be.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. Outside of Kirkwood I like to spend time with my family and friends. I spend a lot of time with my cat, who is like my child.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being selected to represent the hospitality arts program as an Outstanding Student is a huge honor. I feel like my hard work and dedication have been noticed.
